Project Details
We pride ourselves on our custom woodworking. Taking the time to work with the customer on their project is important to us at Carib Teak. When our client reached out to us regarding his unusual shower asking if we could make a Teak Shower floor for his area to fit with custom cuts and corners we worked with the client to work out the details of his project. The customer was very detailed in his measurements and sketches which made the project flawless.
Many times we are contacted by clients in many different parts of the country interested in our Teak Shower floors. The homeowner, designer or contractor provides us with the full shower pan dimensions and we will construct the floors to fit snuggly within that space.
In this project the entry way into the shower included an unusual step-in that the client wanted to match the master shower floor as well. The shower included a pony wall on one side of the shower area that created a notch or cutout of the step in area. This area was carefully constructed to the exact dimensions to ensure proper fit.

We worked with the client to design the batten direction of the step-in to ensure flow from one floor to the next. Making it look like they are all one and aesthetically appealing. Once we made the Teak shower floor step in to the measurements we then added Mineral Oil to the floor to help seal it.
The Master teak shower floor was then made into two-pieces. Since the floor was large in size it made it easier for the client to lift up each floor to clean the underside when needed. The weight of each teak shower floor differs but by making these floors into multiple pieces can sometime help with cleaning and shipping costs.
We made the Master teak shower floor with the battens running the same direction as the step in to flow into one another nicely. We then added Mineral Oil to both the top and bottom side of each floor and let dry for 24 hours. Ensuring the oil settles into the wood grain and enhances the natural golden brown color teak is known for. The oil is applied using a foam brush generously. Oil is not necessary but will help with sealing the floor initially. Over time the Oil will fade and need to be reapplied when preferred or you start to see the floor lighten in color. Depending on the amount of use the floor gets this can be reapplied every 12 months as a rule of thumb.
