A local customer and friend reached out to us looking to create a Stove Cover for her gas stove. She always found that when serving food over top of stove food particles got stuck in the grates. To eliminate this from happening she wanted to create a stove cover over top of stove made from American Walnut.  The customers husband always admired the color and grain pattern of American Walnut. The best part,  she wanted it a surprise for her husband for Christmas!

We started out this project by using 4/4 American Walnut wood. We surfaced these boards to 3/4″ thick by 5-1/2″ wide. We then glued each piece using water resistant glue. The pieces were clamped and let sit over night to settle and cure.

 

After the boards were dry we made the final cut based on the dimensions the customer provided. We then added the 2″ lip or border around the edge. These were adhered with waterproof glue and clamped overnight. Next day we began sanding. We started with a 150 grit and moved up to 320 girt to ensure a soft and even surface.  Each edge was given a waterfall edge using a router and hand sanded smooth. Once all sides were sanded completely we were ready to apply the Matte Polyurethane finish. This allows the product to be sealed and used for drinks or hot surfaces without any rings or stains ingrained in to wood. The finish takes about 3 to 4 coats at 30-40 min dry time. The product is now ready to deliver. We were so happy the customer loved the product and was surprised for his Christmas gift!!
