Project Details

We were contacted by a Design Firm in Brooklyn NY looking for Custom Teak Flooring for the Brooklyn Nets Locker Room. The area of space was large and they wanted it strictly out of Teak. Their original plan was to lay teak tiling or flooring but after much conversation we agreed on Custom Teak Shower Floors for the shower area. This would allow them to step out onto a non slip area after showering. The total area consisted of 18′. We suggested making the floor in pieces and butt up to one another creating the 18′ span of flooring. By doing so, this would allow for easy shipping, installation and least amount of damage during transit. Everyone agreed and we were ready to get to work!

In addition to the Teak Shower Floors we added 6′ of Tongue and Groove Teak flooring to the entry way into shower area. We made the battens to match the same size as the battens for the Teak shower floors. This would create a seamless look.

We began the project with using 8/4 FEQ Burmese Teak Wood. Each board was planed to thickness, cut on chop saw to length and ripped into battens. With over 100 battens we were ready to assemble. Each floor required six runners on the underside to ensure stability. As there were large men standing on these floors day in and day out. Carefully picking out each batten is key to ensuring consistent grain and color pattern. We started with the first floor in laying out the battens to meet the specific dimensions. Then measured total floor length to determine right amount of battens. Once we determined this, we were ready to assemble. Using wood glue, nails and stainless steel screws we had our first floor done and ready for #2.  This process was repeated for the third and fourth floors. Each floor was meticulously inspected for quality of battens, measurements, and finishing of the floors.

Once each floor was assembled we used the router to create the waterfall edge along the bottom side and top side of the floors. Next the rubber feet were added. Lastly, we sanded each floor smooth using 150, 220, and 320 grit sanding. Each floor was placed on floor to match up and create the 18′ span of Teak Shower Flooring. We double checked for stability and strength. As each floor would have at least 200+ lbs on this each day. We were all set with the Teak Shower Floors.

Now time to run the Teak Tongue and Groove flooring for the entry way. Using 8/4 FEQ Burmese Teak we followed each step by planing, cutting to length and ripping  into strips on table saw. Lastly, we ran through the molder to create the Tongue and Groove requested. The clients were very satisfied with the product and loved the floors!
